138 Years of Pulpit Succession

Pastors through the years.

A Reformed Presbyterian congregation lives through pulpit succession: one faithful pastor passing the Westminster Standards and the gospel to the next. Here are the pastors who have served Shearer, as best as we can currently document.

A Work in Progress

What we're documenting.

Dennis Drennen and the church leadership are compiling a complete succession list from original church records, session minutes, and local Presbytery archives. The following list is partial. If you have records, photographs, correspondence, or family memories relating to any Shearer pastor, we would value hearing from you.

Email the church office or reach out directly to Dennis.

Current

Pastor Stephen Stout.

Rev. Stephen Stout currently serves as Shearer's pastor. He preaches through books of the Bible verse by verse, administers the sacraments, and oversees the pastoral care of the congregation together with the elder session.

See the Team page for his full biography and the current elder session.

Known History

A partial record.

The following pastoral succession is being verified against church records. Specific tenure dates, biographical details, and additional names are forthcoming.

  • Pastor Stephen Stout — current
  • Additional pastoral succession to be documented and added here as records are compiled.

If you served at Shearer, your family member served at Shearer, or you have records of a Shearer pastor from any era, please share.

How to Help

Share what you have.

If you have any of the following, we would value a conversation:

  • Original session minutes or clerk's records
  • Pastoral installation or ordination documents
  • Photographs of Shearer pastors from any era
  • Correspondence with or about Shearer pastors
  • Family memories or genealogical records naming Shearer pastors
  • Catawba Valley Presbytery records or minutes mentioning Shearer
  • Newspaper clippings covering Shearer installations, funerals, or anniversaries

Materials can be loaned for scanning and returned, or digital copies sent by email. Credit will be given in the finished history.

The pulpit continues.

Come hear the current pastor preach the same confession the founding pastor would have preached.
