Visiting Shearer with kids.
Parents of young kids have specific questions, and we have specific answers. Here's exactly what happens with your children on Sunday morning, broken down by age.
Nursery (ages 0–3)
Our staffed nursery runs during both Sunday School (9:45) and Worship (11:00). Each room has at least two background-checked adults, age-appropriate toys, snacks for toddlers, and changing stations.
Drop-off is simple: a greeter walks you to the nursery, you fill out a quick information card the first time (name, allergies, contact number), and you get a numbered tag that matches your child's tag so pickup is secure.
If your little one needs you during the service, our nursery team can text your phone. No one will come get you from your pew.
Children's Church (ages 4–6)
Children ages 4 through 6 start the service with their family, then are dismissed before the sermon for Children's Church. There they hear a Bible story on their level, learn a catechism question, and participate in simple age-appropriate worship.
They return to their family during the final hymn so you leave together.
If your child isn't ready to be apart from you, they're welcome to stay in the service. We're used to little wiggles, whispers, and the occasional cheerio on the carpet. No one minds.
Kids 7+ in the service with you
From age seven on, children sit in the service with their parents. This is a Reformed Presbyterian conviction: we worship together as families. Your child will hear the whole sermon, sing the whole hymn, and witness the Lord's Supper.
This can feel like a lot for a kid who's used to a children's program at a different church. Give it a few weeks. Most kids settle into it faster than their parents expect. We have crayons and quiet-activity bulletins at the back if you need them.
AWANA, Sunday School, and more
AWANA runs Wednesday evenings during the school year for Pre-K through high school. Scripture memory, games, snacks. Visitors welcome without pre-registration.
Sunday School at 9:45 AM has graded classes for every age including nursery. Adults meet in the Fellowship Hall.
Youth group for middle and high schoolers meets on a regular rhythm throughout the school year. Check Events for the current schedule.
